RATING:   ★★★★★

The Danish Girl movie is based on the true story of Lili Elbe, the first ever known recipient of sex reassignment surgery.  It was during this time that being lesbian, or gay, or bisexual is not widely accepted by the people, and such preference considered someone as crazy.

Lili Elbe is being portrayed in the movie by Eddie Redmayne, famously known for his role as Stephen Hawking which makes him grabbed most of the Oscars awards during that time.

The Danish Girl is a heartbreaking story, telling audiences what unconditional love is all about. It breaks the heart of the viewer every time Gerda would talk to Lili reminiscing their life with her then husband Einar (now Lili).  Gerda's unconditional love for Lili is such an awakening part to all people that being different is not a flaw.

Cinematography for this movie is great.  They used mirror shots which are superb. Almost perfect.  Showing the set using the line perspectives and great angle gives a great cinematography of the film.  Production Design and set design for this film is flawless.  You will really think that it's shoot just as the time of 1920's.

Sound scoring is good and precise.  More emotion is being released through the help of sound score especially at the end.

Tom Hooper is already known for his exceptional works, and this will not disappoint anyone.

Eddie Redmayne is a strong opponent for Leonardo DiCaprio in getting the Academy Award in acting this time.  Redmayne might again win Oscars for this film.

FILM REVIEW: The Revenant

RATING:   ½

The movie is based on the actual happening of the life of Hugh Glass when he was abandoned by his hunting team after he was badly attacked by a bear, telling that Glass would soon die because of the damaged he received.  Amazingly, Glass was able to survive and was able to seek revenge to Fitzgerald.

Leonardo DiCaprio has always been good in portraying his role, but this role might be a big chance for him to win the Oscars. No wonder he stated that this is the most challenging role he ever played. Just like his role in Wolf of Wall Street, Leo was giving his best in portraying the role, he even ate real raw bison, but Leo wasn't Glass in this movie, he is still Leo portraying Glass.

Alejandro González Iñárritu’s work has always been promising. Though this project was put on hold for a long time, this movie is by far one of the best work he ever accomplished.  I would give a shot that Iñárritu might won another Oscars for directing this time.

Tom Hardy’s acting is superb in this movie. It added to the feels of betrayal when you watch it.  Hardy is really suited for the role of Fitzgerald.  Betrayal feels just by looking at the eyes of Hardy.

The movie is set in natural surroundings, meaning no green screen involve. Natural sound of nature. Natural lighting. Imagine how superb is that! Editing is great too, but I noticed a hair not coming from the actors though (see picture below) . Very minimal dialogues. Don’t get me wrong, minimal dialogues is a good choice.

hair seen not from the actors

Sound score is not that good though. I don’t think it will make it to the Oscars, or even Golden Globes.

STRIKING LINE:

Glass: "Revenge is in the hands of God"

UPDATE:

The Revenant leads the Oscar nominations with its 12 nods!
